My Art Room – The 2012 Visual Diary
With the AWESOME news about where my 2012 is taking me I feel it is only right for me to share my wee online visual diary of ideas and things that have caught my attention as of lately. Some things are my own – ideas that I had forgotten about, things I used to love AND the others will be of things that inspire me at this exact point in time.
Before we kick things off…
I just have to put it out there that I have been so surprised, happy and humbled to receive everyone’s well wishes and support about me heading to Elam for postgrad. I am so stoked. You have no idea.
If you want to be the best you have to surround yourself with the best and be taught by the best and Elam is the best that this country has to offer. I am so stoked. SO STOKED. STOKE IT UP! (Lame-o Nelson insert right there!).
It was definitely a hard decision to stray away from the comforts of what I already knew and to leave people that supported me right through my degree. But hey, I want to do something with what I love, and do it right and do it really, really well.
Being pushed and taken out of that comfort zone will no doubt take some adjusting but I think it will end up giving me the right direction, skills and success that I know can be achieved in this industry.

When I was home in Nelson I went through a whole pile of boxes and found these from my first year work.
Although it’s first year, we were turning out pretty decent projects ever week. So I tried to mix it up as much as possible each week.

Used masking, painting with developer, scratching, multiple exposure, OHT layers, negative flip.

My favorite thing I have made. Period. This took me two days straight with four hours sleep.. Worth it!
I have an obsession with layering. It is always in my work.
It may be added at the end in editing or the image my just be built up on so many layers. It’s just one of the aesthetic things that I clearly enjoy.

As I write up and put together this post more and more things come to mind. I am loving this process and getting my mind all arty again. Just thinking art is inspiring. Life is good.
Next time I think I will look into composition and aesthetics. I think I now have a research topic sussed, but think a little more investigating needs to be done before I even let out that kind of guff…
I am really excited about my old class mates wanting to help me out so guys feel free to give me your input! Art class will not be the same without you but having your words, support, ideas and critique means HEAPS to me.
Still gotta post about the weekend but that can wait!.. Other than this!
Today is Waitangi Day.
Pretty much NZ day.
On the 6th of February 1840 The Treaty of Waitangi was signed between the two cultures that make up our beautiful country.
I am proud to say that I (a girl of european descent) am very lucky to be in a relationship with PJK (a boy of Maori descent).
Although our country never really seems to do things right on this day, it is nice to think that in a round about and super simple way (without all the political/customary rights stuff) we are a product of that moment. Pakeha and Maori uniting… Topic of conversation anyone??

After Work Treat ♥
When ever it’s a nice day out and you’ve been stuck inside, nothing says “You did an awesome job today” like a wee treat to yourself. I picked The Ice Bar Co. Old Fashioned Lemonade iceblock for my after work treat yesterday. Good choice and with that end of day sun, how could I go wrong?!

So long Springle…Here comes SUMMER!
Wasn’t she just a magic weekend?? You could feel that summer is just around the corner.. YAY! And what made it even better for me was that it was my first weekend off in over two months! Well deserved, and definitely overdue.
As much as I had every intention to DO something with it, I did a bit fat pile of nothing.. GLORIOUS nothing! A few lazy days hanging with PJK was just what I needed.
Ok, not quiet nothing.
We went and had a geeze at the Auckland International Tattoo Convention.
I am the biggest scaredy cat. Even watching people get them done makes me want to cry..
But we did pick up this awesome kete that PJK wants to take everywhere with him, including BYO dins hehe
I picked up the card for this talented lady at the stall, not too sure if she made it but props to who ever did, it is BEAUTIFUL!

Annnnnd on Sunday we mished up Mt Eden.
We still haven’t done a lot of things like this and we have been in Aucks since JANUARY!!

Wild flowers/plants/weeds are still so pretty..
I remember taking a picture of a gorse bush flowering when I was little, much to mothers disgust, but sometimes things that aren’t ment to be pretty are..

How cool are trees? They are actually one of the best things EVER!
So we actualy did a fair bit of stuff! However I did miss out on a few key events out of my chillness.. I really wanted to go check out both Whitecliffe and Elam’s graduate exhibitions. Congrats to all that participated in these shows and I am sure you had an awesome night after a year or few of hard work! Hopefully that’s me next year YAY!
NOW I need to acknowledge a wee milestone in the www world, today I hit 300 likes on the old FB which I think is pretty damn awesome.
Considering I haven’t made much art since I finished uni, it’s pretty awesome to have people curious to see what your up to.
For me this blog is a way to keep me active and constantly taking pictures. I really love making and creating and I truly believe that is my gift to share with the world.
So thank you to everyone that has stopped by my page, hit the like button or stalked what you think is David Hasselhoff’s missus. TUUUU MEKE!

Friday YUMS
With the sun a shinning and the boyf back from sailing on the sea we mished down to the new Wynyard Quarter/North Wharf for a nice wee stroll and belly filling goodness.
Yummy Whitebait Sammies washed down with a bit of Sol.

MAGICAL PARADISE
So I actually live in paradise and pretty damn close to Auckland CBD. Would you believe we have palm tress..yes treeS!.. that climb all the way up to the sky. Lately we have had an influx of birdies. Tui, Parrots, Waxeye’s, Pigeons, Sparrows. This is all with thanks to the pine cone feeding mechanism and now with a major upgrade to a homemade bird house we have even more. Now with spring dancing it’s way into our lives, our trees have started to blossom and the daisy’s are chasing the sun. We also purchased a stack of strawberry plants.. YUMMO! Did I say I live in paradise???

So after two very different trips to Piha since I have been in Aucks, I think it is safe to say, I have fallen in love.

Ah the joys of actually growing up (don’t worry, it’s just a bit) and making the big decisions. As life would have it, I am one lucky person and had my eggs in lots of baskets and then I chose the one egg that wasn’t even in my favoured basket but as a “big person”, it was defiantly the wise thing to do. SO… the good old masters is on a hold.. JUST for a TAD! And I am spending my days working to fund what will hopefully be a very happy and artistic year.
Rabbits.
Something out there in the Universe loves me. I was gifted a job, a home, friends and rabbits all in one week. Just magic.
Thank you to those that have made our big move so easy and really, just straight up awesome.
