Magic Monday

Today was one of those great days. Lots done, I learnt something annnd I rewarded myself with a little relax.

It really was a magic Monday!

First up I got to learn how to develop colour films. I am so excited about the process and getting back to making images from scratch, the process is so rewarding. I am really excited about the whole colour darkroom thing.
And just by talking to one of the fourth year students in the space of developing time, I came up with a new idea for some photos. I love that. I love art school for that. Banter creating ideas. Love.

I also managed to FINALLY get some prints developed that I have been meaning to get done.

Heres the end result.. Pretty happy with them and they just need to be homed in some box frames and pinned down.

Young Nicks Head, Gisborne, New Zealand

Abel Tasman Nation Park, New Zealand.

Pretty fabric tape :)

Now this is just the start to my 2012 Creative Collection.
I am very excited to be working pretty hard on ideas for a whole pile of awesome STUFF to be ready to sell before the end of the year.
WATCH THIS SPACE!

I ended up the afternoon with heading down to The Cloud to smell the sea, sit in the sun and The Cloud was bursting with sweet tunes.
What a great way to finish up such a productive morning.
I had a smile on my dial and was loving that very moment in my life.
Awesome.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

MAIL TIME!

Time for another round of postal loving.

This time I received some treats that I ordered off Etsy…

And I also received the second issue of Print. Magazine. This publication is so perfect. I love the paper stock, the pages filled with bucket lists and quotes and the images inside are beautiful and raw.
I hunted high and low but it was all sold out at my local Mag Nations so I decided to get my hands on it via the lovely people that are behind it.
I loved the touch of a wee note inside, computerised or not, it is still so nice.
I will definitely be looking at getting the next issue.

I hope you are all looking forward to the weekend.
Mine involves a spot of work and I might just make an action plan for the week to come.
Boring I know, but I can’t let these lovely days slide past without getting something made/done/taken.
I now have a sewing machine so hardly any excuses now!

Enjoy whatever the weekend may bring.
Hopefully it has lots of…

Snail Mail LOVING!

I love getting things in the mail. I think most people love getting unexpected presents in that little box that sits out the front of our homes. It is honestly one of the happiest things to get (aside from bills hehe). I love it.

My lovely friend Amelia is one of those friends that likes to gift me things via mail. She is AWESOME!!

Easter was clearly a great reason for her to send something my way and I enjoyed every single part of the experience…

How cute is that???

LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I know we shouldn’t need a reason to send our buds mail, but I am super happy with my wee Easter surprise.
I love my friends, they are some of the best people out there.
And when you get things like this in the mail, its nice to know they think the same about you.
Why not make the time to even write a nice letter to a friend that is away from you?
Or like Mealz you can make it a good reason to get your DIY ideas on the go.

Amelia I need to come up with something to top this, you are a superstar!
You put so much time into this and it truly did warm my wee heart.

Hope you are all having a good week so far.
I keep thinking its Friday… Oh no!

Easter Adventure – The Mount + The Little Big Market

It was the long weekend, so what better way to spend it than a quick getaway. This time I was treated to two-ish days in The Mount and I was also treated to good food, fantastic people, awesome games and pretty things. Everything you need to make a weekend getaway just right. OOOHHH and SUNSHINE!! There was so much SUNSHINE!!! While I was there I stopped in at The Little Big Markets, check out the cute bits and pieces that caught my attention. Some were very hard to resist so I played the responsible person (so hard at ANY market!) and decided to get their business cards instead for future shopping…

HAPPY SNAPS FROM EASTER 2012

Pretty bunting flags lining the rows of stalls at The Little Big Markets.

Amazing range of cards, prints and tee’s
@ Alice Berry Quirky Design

Pretty upcycled bags, wallets and cushions by
NZ FINCH

Other than getting my market on, we also popped down the beach and made millions of pizza’s.. So yummy!

And it all finished off with a taster of L&P Ice Cream in Paeroa

It is not very often that we get to head away so it was definitely something that we were really excited to do. Although it was short, it was sweet and was filled will LOADS of…

HAPPINESS

Hope you all had a great weekend and don’t fell too sick from the chocolate overload.
The weather sounds like it was magic all over the country so fingers crossed you all had a great time.

The 2012 Visual Diary – Quarter One DONE!

WOW already on our first set of holidays.. Not that it is a break but more of a refresher, time to read up, get some writing underway and also just get out there and take photographs.

I am have been a little lack luster on the posts as of lately, I just haven’t felt so ‘Love Sunshine and Happinessey’, but time to kick that like I said in my last post and just enjoy this beautiful life!

I thought I should recap what has gone down over the first chunk of my postgrad studies and look at setting myself some goals for mid year.

Here’s a few snippets from my REAL LIFE visual diary..

Over the break I would like to…
Read, fill out my VD more, make stuff for me (get CRAFTY!), get into a better rhythm and study/life balance, redo my proposal, complete all ethics paper work, start writing towards my final essay.

Goals to be achieved by July 2012..
Series of finished images that are exhibit-able, mastered the study/life balance, be proud of what I have made, continue to write towards my final essay, smash out my next crit.

The Visual Diary 2012 – Kicking the Funk

After my post the other day I have had the most amazing response from my awesome friends. It wasn’t my intention to be a seeker of attention or anything, it was more to speak out loud to the blogosphere about how I was feeling. I felt that I couldn’t say it out loud any where else. I felt so stupid and still do. So thank you to all you lovely folk who told me to stick at it and get into it. At the end of the day, postgrad is hard for a reason.

Next phase. Finishing off prepping for my first crit on Tuesday.

Reading ready.

Photos almost done.

Just need to choose my interviewer and print and hang.

I can do it. Yes I can. BOOM!

Once that is all done I have some great things to look forward too.. First up, I get to see my Mumma. Next up, off to the Mount for a get away. Then back to spend more to with my family.

But in between all that since it is holidays, I have decided that I am going to make use off all that stuff that I have around the place. I even have a new addition to add to my pile of STUFF…..

Meet a very small portion of Arahua Pounamu off cuts straight from PJK’s carving uncle.

Another side thing is actively trying to turn what I love into my career.. Auckland has so many opportunities but is really saturated so I have to figure myself out as a photographer, find my niche and get a taking.

You always have to remind yourself of the sweet treats during any journey. Because I had been on a mundane path of normal life for so long I suppose I forgot about that. So I definitely am taking the good that has come along with  my challenges that I am facing at the mo.

Chin up, cheer up. Kick the funk!

I hope you all have a magic weekend.
I will be enjoying some Marmite on toast for breaky thanks to PJK’s Mumma hunting high and low is Gizzy for me for a container. What a gem!
Its gonna be AMAZING!

Lastly heres a little something that has been making me smile often.
I love this girl and if you haven’t heard of this talented Kiwi lass by now then you SHOULD!
Her name is Kimbra, she is from the mighty Tron.
And her sweet songs have me dancing all day.
Love. Love. Love.
The looping on this is insane. One woman band anyone?

The 2012 Visual Diary – Hitting a Wall

So it’s been a while since I posted some bits and pieces towards my VD.. I keep telling everyone its procrastination, the good old tool for students wasting away the days. But to be honest I wish it was..

It has been awesome starting at Elam, and don’t get me wrong I really enjoy it. I really enjoy the people, the amazing tutors, the conversations and the drive to make but…

I can’t help but already feeling so behind before I started. It is honestly horrible. I feel as though I am in a worse postion academically now than when I started my first year. The jargon and all round lingo that is used makes me feel really unintelligent and it puts me on a mega downer. I was once the person that contributed all the time to class discussions but at the moment I feel as though what I want to say doesn’t really have any fancy words to back it up..

This has then translated to my work.. Is it good enough? Have I found the right/hardenough reading to go along with it??.. Our crits are cold, meaning we just listen, which kind of works in my favor at the mo with how I am feeling but will understand what they are saying?? I just keep questioning my ability far to much…

I did take some pictures last night which is good. Decided to take some back ups on my digi this time as I am having some tough times with my exposures on my Lomo’s.

Here’s one.. The idea – Jung and Active Imagination.
I really wanted to use a harsh flash but since I am using that with the Lomo’s I thought I best use ambient light with the digi’s.. I kind of like it actually.

Anyways I hope you are all having a good week so far!
I have the potential mother in-law coming to stay this weekend. She has just started her MBA so we can talk postgrad together :)

Here’s to a better few days, all in preparation for my crit..

Just gotta keep on smiling and laughing and it all seems better…

A bit of LOVE helps

Along with some glorious SUNSHINE on the bod

and who can forget HAPPINESS.. It makes everything amazing.

**Mr and Mrs Currie**

This was my first trip back to Christchurch since I left in 2009. And what an event to return for!..

On Friday the 13th of January 2012 I was so very lucky to see my sister from another mister, Miss Kylie J Lloyd turn into a beautiful bride and walk down the aisle towards her hubby to be, Robbie, only to turn into Mrs Currie.
It was a day filled with so many smiles, lots of laughs and a few tears (including my own!) backed by a sea of rainbow colours and cute wee handmade treasures. Just magic!
You guys know this already, but I think you’re pretty awesome and I wish nothing but awesomeness for your life together. Just remember me and Marky are entitled to your first born for setting you two up :) x

Thanks to Amelia for being my photo buddy. You are a legend! And to everyone else that helped us out on the day. This was my first ever wedding to shoot and my first time going to a wedding that I remember so it was definitely an experience to learn and grow from. Thank you so much Robbie and Kylie for taking a chance on me and letting me be apart of your special day :)

Taken on a mixture of digital and film cameras. Canon 300D, Holga with 120, Holga with 35mm, Oktomat, Kodak 127 Brownie with 35mm. Shot with 200iso, 400iso and 800iso.
